Demand For Breast Augmentation On The Rise

A shapely figure is something our present day society greatly admires. With pop culture icons and celebrities getting breast augmentations all the time, they become increasingly popular. When we hear of famous people such as Leanne Rhymes getting breast implants, many of us feel like self-improvement is something we might like to have.

True, having any part of your figure worked on may not solve any of life’s big challenges, but it may increase your self esteem and even boost confidence. At some point in our lives, we all might wish that some area of our body could be different. With the advancement of medical science in plastic surgery, this type of outpatient procedure is entirely safe. After a brief period of recuperation, you will be back in the routine of life and in a brand new, beautiful body.

Experts predict that as our economy continues to improve, the demand for breast augmentation surgery will rise. This type of operation is constantly being made safer due to improvements in the products used, offering more options for surgery, and more skilled plastic surgeons working in the field. The contours of reshaping the breast have been vastly improved upon over the years, so now the results are completely natural looking.

As the demand for this outpatient procedure continues to become a rising trend, more and more plastic surgery clinics are being established near you. Qualified doctors are ready to help you realize the image you have always wanted.

Business Is A-Boomin’ – Plastic Surgery Predictions For 2011

Plastic surgeon's have more than one reason the celebrate 2011...

As we move forward into the new year, it seems only fitting to pay tribute to the many industries who have suffered the wrath of the recent economic downfall due, in part, to new, efficient and innovative replacements. From the music industry to movie rentals and even the automotive industry, many companies have been forced to evolve or simply fade into oblivion. However, the plastic surgery community need not worry, for as time continues age us all, more and more individuals are headed under the knife in search of their own little fountain of youth.

The growth in popularity for treatments such as Botox, Juvederm and others only continues to grow while the products continue to evolve, and with the U.S. in a full blown “obesity epidemic”, the number of individuals seeking body contouring procedures is also expected to increase.

Unfortunately, the popularity of cosmetic surgeries will likely result in many patients seeking discounted procedures in order to keep up. An upswing in discount injectables and surgeries performed by unauthorized or poorly trained practitioners will almost certainly incur a slew of botched results.

Conversely, the popularity of non-surgical procedures will only provide manufactures with an incentive to develop better and more effective products and treatment options. This will provide patients with more aesthetically pleasing results, and in turn, increase sales dramatically.

With the economy finally looking toward an upswing and promise of newer, safer, and more cost effective treatments on the horizon, there’s little doubt that 2011 is going to be a great year for plastic surgery.

Use Your Before and After Photos to Gain More Patients

Most doctors know the importance of before and after photos, as they usually show them to patients at their office before the surgery takes place. However, those who have websites for their practice may consider showing them online, allowing patients to get an idea of the possibilities before the initial consultation.

You probably already have before and after photos of most of your patients, but they might be in books in your waiting room. These are great tools for patients already in your office, but allowing them to peruse the pictures before they meet with you might be beneficial. If you are truly confident in the photos you have of past patients, you should give them a chance to possibly gather new clients for your practice.

Choosing a New Jersey plastic surgeon is not always a process that only requires facts. A plastic surgeon may be very good at what he or she does, but a particular patient may want their surgery done a certain way, or with a different outcome than what the doctor in question can provide. Rather than wasting both your time and the potential patient's, you can impress them by offering your pictures of past patients to website viewers. Aside from allowing your audience to get a look at your plastic surgery skills, pictures of actual patients allow site viewers to connect with your office a bit more than they normally would. Setting your website apart in this way just may get you more patients than ever simply by uploading your existing patients' photos to your site.

Implant Placement Options-- Which Do Surgeons Prefer?

According to a survey published in the March/April Aesthetic Surgery Journal, most plastic surgeons prefer to place breast implants under the muscle rather than over, with 62% choosing that option.

Breast implants can be placed either over the muscle of the chest wall, partially underneath, or completely underneath, depending upon numerous factors such as the desired aesthetic result, the surgeon's skill, post-operative discomfort, and recovery time.

Over the Muscle:

Breast implants placed over the muscle(subglandular)offer a rounder look than under the muscle options. It is the easiest technique to perform and offers less post-operative pain and a shorter recovery than other options as well. It also accommodates larger implants and makes creating cleavage easier. On the other hand, this option carries the highest risk of capsular contracure than other placement options. There is a higher degree of noticeable rippling and implant edges too. And many women find the rounder look created to be unnatural, preferring the sloped look attained by implants placed beneath the muscle.

Partially Under the Muscle:

Partial unders, on the other hand, conceal ripples and implant edges better in the top portion of the breast. They also create the sloped breast look many women consider more natural-looking. This option reduces the risk of capsular contracture as well, due to limited contact with the implant to the breast tissue and milk ducts. Like with the over the muscle placement, the implant is supported by skin only, so the risk of "bottoming out" is higher with this option than with complete submuscular placement. And due to the fact that this technique is more invasive than the over the muscle option, and because the muscle will need to stretch to accommodate the implants, patients will experience more post-operative pain and a longer recovery with this method.

Completely Under the Muscle:

Implants placed completely under the muscle conceal such aesthetic issues as rippling and implant edges better than the other two options. The risk of capsular contracture is lowest with this option as well. And because implants have greater support with this technique than the other two options, "bottoming out" is less of an issue as well. This option also makes mammograms results easier to read than the the over the muscle option. Creating cleavage, on the other hand, especially in women whose breasts are wide apart is difficult with this placement option. There is also more post-operative pain and a longer recovery period with this option.

As with all aspects of breast augmentation, surgeons tend to have their preferred placement option. Be sure to discuss various placement options with him or her before surgery to make sure you get the result you want. Placement options can affect the incision placement used as well as the shape and cleavage result.

New Saline Implant may offer More Natural-Looking Results

Have developers really come up with a new breast implant combining the safety of saline with the natural-looking results of silicone gel? A clinical trial being launched this month is set to answer that very question. The new implant is called the IDEAL IMPLANT® Saline-filled Breast Implant. Though it is filled entirely with saline, the implant offers several layers of implant shell designed to control sloshing. The implant is also said to fit better on the chest wall, reducing the wrinkling effect often associated with saline implants.

Though silicone gel implants have been approved by the FDA since 2006, a recent study revealed that 60 percent of breast augmentations are still being performed using saline. Silicone gel implants tend to produce a more natural look and feel than saline, but fears of rupture and other health concerns still play a big role in the type of implant surgeons and patients ultimately choose.

The clinical trial for the new implants will be conducted by select plastic surgeons in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Southeast Florida, and Southern California.

Though these new implants are being tested in only 500 women initially, the traditional saline and silicone gel options are widely available now. For those considering breast augmentation, Jacksonville plastic surgeon Dr. Dean De Roberts offers great information on his website. Or, find a board certified plastic surgeon near you at plasticsurgery.org and schedule a personal consultation.

Constricted Breast Correction

Though many who visit plastic surgeons do so to increase their breast size, several breast abnormalities exist which can cause aesthetic issues as well. For some women, a condition called constricted or "tubular" breasts can affect the shape and appearance of their breasts. This developmental breast deformity causes breasts to be very narrow at the chest and appear tubular in shape. Often, the tissue protrudes into the aerola as well, and the inframammary fold can be abnormally close to the nipple. Constricted breasts tend to appear much smaller than round breasts of the same volume. The breasts also often point downward with the nipples resting below the inframammary fold. Though women with this condition often know something is wrong, they may not know the cause nor the treatment available.

This condition can be surgically corrected with a combination of breast augmentation and a modified breast lift technique. The narrow breast base must be expanded to accommodate breast implants and the protruding breast tissue corrected.

Though the results of this procedure can be extremely positive, it's important to find a surgeon skilled in tubular breast correction. For a consultation for this condition, or if you're considering other procedures such as a breast lift or breast augmentation, San Francisco plastic surgeon Dr. Roy Kim can help.

Breast Augmentation offers a Self-Esteem Boost

Though there are plenty of jokes and stereotypes out there about women who undergo breast augmentation, most women who seek it are really very normal. Yet the caricatures continue to portray top-heavy porn stars with gigantic fake-looking breasts, and those with such deep self-esteem issues that they practically live at their plastic surgeon's office. In truth, most women who seek out breast enhancement want normal, natural-looking results. And though some who seek breast implants may have self-esteem issues, most merely want a little boost to improve their their appearance.

But, that's no to say plastic surgery can't improve self-esteem to an extent. According to a study conducted by the University of Florida, breast augmentation does offer an increase in not only self-esteem, but sexual satisfaction as well. For one patient in Houston, breast augmentation did offer a self-esteem increase which she happily attributes to her surgery, saying, "it's incredible to walk around work and shopping with my head held a little higher and I have a quicker smile for the people I pass."

The women who participated in the University of Florida study had healthy levels of self-esteem before surgery. The breast augmentation merely gave them a boost. Plastic surgery cannot "fix" self-esteem issues, and women with true self-esteem problems are not considered good candidates.

For those considering cosmetic enhancement, Houston breast augmentation specialist Dr. Bob Basu offers great information on his website. Or consult the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website to find a board certified plastic surgeon close to you.

Breast Augmentation a Tax Deduction?

According to a recent article on Kiplinger.com, breast augmentation made the list of "Top 11 Oddball Tax Deductions," coming in at number 7.

The deduction was claimed by "Chesty Love" a stripper who underwent breast augmentation to increase her tips--as well as her chest size to a whopping 56-FF. A Tax Court judge allowed the deduction of the cost of her surgery, equating the implants to stage props. Unfortunately, Ms. Love later tripped and ruptured one of her implants.

Other crazy deductions that made the list included pet food, body oil, a trip to Bermuda, beer, a swimming pool and a private airplane.

If you are considering breast augmentation, for a tax deduction or any other reason, San Francisco breast augmentation surgeon, Dr. Roy Kim, offers great information about the procedure, recovery and risks on his website.

Breast Augmentation with Less Downtime

As plastic surgery becomes more and more a part of mainstream society, the busy men and women who seek it need to get back on their feet as soon as they can. Luckily, with advancements in techniques and treatments developing all the time, many plastic surgeons are able to offer rapid recovery procedures to their patients.

For busy patients seeking breast augmentation, San Jose plastic surgeon Dr. Lowen describes his rapid recovery breast augmentation technique to potential patients on his website. Using his technique, which promises a reduction in bleeding, bruising, injury to tissues, and pain, 95% of the 200 patients he followed were able to return to normal activity within 4 days or less.

For plastic surgery patients in New Jersey, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, thigh lift, and lipoabdominoplasty are all offered with reduced downtime by The Parker Center for Plastic Surgery. According to the Parker Center website, breast augmentation patients are able to return to most normal activities withing 24 hours of surgery. By using minimal incisions, medical tissue glue, a careful combination of drugs to minimize pain, swelling and bruising, along with other techniques, their patients experience a shorter, less arduous recovery than many expect.

Though medical advancements allow for less downtime after many plastic surgery procedures, it is still essential to follow your surgeon's orders after undergoing any procedure and not overdo it too fast.

Titanium Coated Implants - Breast Augmentation Enters The Space Age

Want breast implants that you can be sure won't break? Why not get titanium coatings? Let one of the strongest materials known to man make sure your breast implants don't break! Titanium-coated breast implants are called "TiBreze" implants. The technology was developed by two companies, Poly Implants Prosthesis and GfE.

Sound insane? Let me explain... First of all, it is not solid metal. The implants simply have titanium coating. This coating is created by nanotechnology, fusing the titanium with the silicone. It works just like a regular silicone implant and feels no different.

Titanium is actually one of the least toxic metals in the world. That's why titanium bonding is safe. Titanium works well with your body to prevent scarring and other breast implant risks. Researchers think that over time titanium will bond more closely to your breast, making your implants stronger and even more natural.

These implants are still in the experimental stage, so you may have trouble finding a clinic that does it close to home.

For more information on breast augmentation options available today, contact Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Bob Basu.

Breast Augmentation Incision Options

An important issue to discuss with your plastic surgeon before breast augmentation is the placement of incisions. All incisions placement options are designed to conceal as much scarring as possible from view. But each incision option still comes with its own set benefits and disadvantages. To ensure optimal results, a little pre-op investigation is warranted.

The four main types of breast augmentation incisions are the inframammary (breast crease incision), peri-areolar (nipple incision), transaxillary (armpit incision), and TUBA (navel incision), with the two most common being the inframammary and the peri-areolar.

Inframmary Incision: positioned in the crease below the breast, inframmary incisions can be used for any of the three implant placement options, subglandular (over the chest muscle), partial submuscular (upper 2/3 of implant under chest muscle), and complete submuscular (entire implant under chest muscle). This incision option allows the surgeon the best visibility and control over implant placement during surgery. Revision surgery is also easiest to perform using the original incision when the inframmary option is used.

Peri-areolar Incision: one of the two most commonly used incision options, the peri-areolar incision follows the edge of the areola, the dark area of the skin surrounding the nipple. This technique allows for all three implant placement options and offers the surgeon great visibility and control of the breast area during surgery. For those combining a breast lift with their augmentation, the peri-areolar option will be used since a nipple incision is needed in all breast lift procedures.

Transaxillary Incision: offering the advantage of well-hidden scars in the natural creases of the armpit, transaxillary incisions are commonly used in endoscopic procedures. This incision option requires greater skill than the inframmary and peri-areolar options, so be sure to choose a surgeon familiar with this technique if a transaxillary incision is important to you. Many women like the hidden scar offered by this option, however, if revision surgery is needed, a new incision will be needed which will result in additional scarring. Though implants can be placed in all three positions using this technique, the implants are being placed far from the incision site. Therefore, your results may not be optimal unless a skilled surgeon is used.

TUBA: TUBA stands for trans-umbilical breast augmentation, and uses a belly button incision. Also known as the "scarless breast augmentation", TUBA incisions are nearly undetectable. Though more and more surgeons are learning and performing this technique, it is not nearly as common as other breast augmentation procedures. Before undergoing a TUBA breast augmentation, it's important to choose a surgeon with the skill to properly perform it. Due to the great distance from the incision to the breast area, the surgeon has less control of the implant placement using this technique. Though both subglandular and partial-submuscular implant placement can be performed using the TUBA technique, finding a surgeon able to perform the submuscular technique may take some looking.

Though some scarring is inevitable with all types of surgery, even cosmetic surgery, careful placement of the incisions combined with advanced wound care techniques can make scars less noticeable. For more information on incision options for breast augmentation, St. Louis plastic surgeon and his staff will be happy to answer your questions.

Breast Lift/Augmentation Combo offers Great Patient Satisfacion

According to a study presented to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast lifts and lift/augmentation combos offer a very high rate of patient satisfaction. 99 percent of women asked about their surgeries said they'd have it performed again.

In the past, patient satisfaction of breast augmentation and breast reduction have been studied, but breast lift and breast lift/augmentation combos had not been adequately examined.

Breast augmentation surgery is performed to increase breast size, while lifts remove excess skin to correct unwanted sagging. Lift/augmentation combos provide an increase in bust size with vertical repositioning. Lifts are also commonly performed with breast reduction surgery, which also offers a high satisfaction rate among women.

For more information about breast lift, breast reduction or New Jersey breast enhancements, contact board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Franckle.

What is Breast Implant Profile?

We know about various breast implant sizes, and the difference between saline and silicone gel, but what the heck is the breast implant profile? Well, the profile refers to how much an implant projects or stands out from chest in relation to the implant's base width. Various implant profiles work better with different body types.

For women with a narrow frame a high profile implant may result in a more natural look due to the narrower base. For those with wider frames a moderate to low profile implant may give better coverage.

Both saline or silicone gel implants come in a variety of profiles to choose from, generally low, moderate, or high though they may be referred to by other names.

For help deciphering the various breast implant choices, Boston breast implant plastic surgeon Dr. Moss offers a website to help.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon Abroad

To choose a plastic surgeon close to home, you'd hopefully check his or her credentials and disciplinary record; research their education; make sure they are board certified by a reputable plastic surgery organization, such as the American Board of Plastic surgery; meet with the surgeon for at least one consultation; research the surgical facility; and repeat the entire process with several surgeons until you are satisfied you are choosing well. So it should go without saying that your evaluation process for a surgeon abroad should be at least as rigorous.

With the price-driven popularity of medical tourism on the rise, more and more patients are going under the knife abroad with surprisingly little research. In fact, the internet has become packed with cosmetic surgery "vacation" packages offering tummy tucks, facelifts, liposuction and breast augmentation combined with resort stays, sight-seeing tours, and ample pool-side pampering all conveniently pre-planned and at prices that far beat those of the surgical procedures alone in the U.S.

When considering plastic surgery overseas, the first thing to remember is that plastic surgery is not a vacation activity. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the "vacation" activities that lure many to these package deals have no place in plastic surgery recovery.

"Vacation activities should be avoided after surgery. To properly heal and reduce the possibility of complications, patients should not sunbath, drink alcohol, swim/snorkel, water ski/jet ski, parasail, take extensive tours (walking or bus), or exercise after surgery."

Be skeptical of any deal or agency that emphasizes the "vacation" or "resort" aspects. Though inviting, they serve as a distraction from where a patient's focus should be when considering plastic surgery and choosing a surgeon.

When seeking a competent plastic surgeon abroad, there are tools that can help. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery offers a surgeon-finder tool on their website listing surgeons in 73 countries who meet U.S. standards for training, surgical experience and safety issues.

To those considering quality, domestic cosmetic surgery, Conroe, Texas plastic surgeon Dr. Kim offers complimentary initial patient consultations right here at home.

Understanding a Physician's Credentials Before Plastic Surgery

Many doctors advertise they are "board-certified," but understanding what that means can be tricky. Physicians in many specialties can perform cosmetic procedures and be "board-certified" in something, whether it be dermatology, ophthalmology, or podiatry, but that doesn't mean they are trained plastic surgeons. If you are considering any type of plastic surgery, be sure the physician you choose is amply trained in the cosmetic procedure you seek by checking with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. To be certified by the ABPS, a doctor must have graduated from an accredited medical school and completed at least five years of additional residency. He or she must also have practiced plastic surgery for two years prior to certification and pass comprehensive oral and written exams. The ABPS also offers the added assurance of requiring re-examination every 10 years.

Another great resource for choosing a qualified plastic surgeon is the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The ASPS required its members to be certified by either the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as meet additional requirements, such as operating only in accredited medical facilities, and fulfilling continuing medical education requirements. The ASPS requires six years of general surgery experience instead of the five required by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, with three, rather than two years of plastic surgery training.

Another important step in choosing a plastic surgeon is determining what type of plastic surgery they specialize in. If you're seeking breast augmentation, choose a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation rather than rhinoplasty or other facial procedures. Make sure to find out how many procedures like yours they have performed, and view before and after pictures to be sure the surgeon can deliver the results you want.

There are a few more tricks to use to determine whether a surgeon is someone you should trust or run away from. For instance, you should compare the price of the procedure you are considering with prices being charged by other surgeons. If there is sharp disparity, be skeptical. Cosmetic surgeries performed at extremely low prices can have hazardous results. Also check out which hospitals and facilities he or she is allowed to perform surgery in. Even if you are having an office-based procedure it's important to remember, if the hospitals you trust don't allow him or her to operate in their facilities, you certainly don't want them operating on you.

‘Miss Bimbo’ - Breast Implant is not a Kid’s Game!

It is no more a matter of surprise, if you see your 8 year old daughter showing more interest in breast implants than the normal kiddie activities.

A silly and stupid new online game, 'Miss Bimbo' played by girls between ages 7 to 16 helps them perform breast implants to their dolls. They get virtual credit to play the game, but later on require to send text messages that cost $3.00 each to top up their accounts.

The ‘Miss Bimbo’ website promotes extreme diets and other cosmetic surgery information to your 7-8 year olds. On viewing this kind of content, these young girls may suffer eating disorders or will aspire to have breast surgeries, which is unnatural at this age. You need to keep close watch on your kid’s internet activities. Your daughter may feel that ‘Miss Bimbo’ needs a ‘Jumbo’ and keep sending text messages costing your pocket and making you feel like a ‘Dumb’ with exorbitant mobile bills.

Breast implant, is most preferred choice among women to have shapely upright breasts and boost self esteem. But this game is advisable only when these kid's have reached certain maturity levels to understand. After all breast implant is not a kid’s game!

Breast Implant Safety

When it comes to breast implants, there are a lot of myths about breast implant safety. It's time you had the scientific facts presented to you so that if you are trying to decide if breast implants are for you.

It seems the news has been filled with reports of women suffering from autoimmune disease as a result of breast cancer. There has also been a great deal of coverage relating to breast cancer and an increased risk from implants.

While all this attention in the news is going on, the scientific world is busy conducting more tests and more studies. It's important that you have up to date information to base your decision on, minus the sensationalism that the media brings to the world.

Another recent study by the National Cancer Institute showed that there was no significant increase in the risk of breast cancer. You can visit www.nci.nih.gov/newscenter/siliconefactsheet to see the entire study.

A report released by the National Academy Institute of Medicine issued the following statement: "The NCI researchers found no association between breast implants and the subsequent risk of breast cancer ... Women with breast implants were not at an increased risk for connective tissue disorders when their records were reviewed by two independent rheumatologists who did not know if the women
had an implant or not."

All women, regardless of breast implants or not, are at risk for certain diseases including breast cancer, and that there is no correlation between breast implants and breast cancer.

However, implants can make it more difficult to detect breast cancer on the mammogram, so it's a good idea to have a mammogram before you have your implants. It makes it easier for future comparisons.

Of course, with any surgery, there are some risks, which your plastic surgeon will discuss with you, but as a whole breast implants are safe, just ask millions of women around the world.
